O-Rings Used With OmegaOne Fittings

No Comments Uncategorized

While OmegaOne proudly offers a wide variety of stainless-steel fittings, we also offer accessories to best meet your connection needs. O-Rings are commonly used throughout the industry to create tight, secure connections.

An O-ring is a circular black doughnut shaped gasket that is provided on OmegaFlare, OmegaBite, OmegaPipe and OmegaSeal. O-rings form a seal on fittings that result in better seals. O-rings are even capable of creating industrial-grade secure seals in harsh temperatures and extreme pressures.

There are two types of O-rings typically used with stainless steel tube fittings: nitrile and fluorocarbon. Each type of O-ring is used for a different type of fitting. The type of O-ring you need depends on the conditions your application will be working in.

Nitrile (Buna-N) O-Rings

Buna or nitrile O-rings are the most common O-rings used throughout the fittings industry and are considered the standard at OmegaOne. These rings serve a wide range of temperatures from 40 below zero to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. They’re also known for their performance in the petroleum and fuel industry, and many military specifications require these O-rings. Thanks to their permeability for oil and gas, these O-rings are most commonly used in the compressed natural gas applications.

Fluorocarbon (Viton) O-Rings

Viton O-rings are the next most common ring which can handle temperatures ranging from 15 below zero to 440 degrees Fahrenheit. These rings perform well in high-temperature environments, oxygen oils, hydraulic fluid, and chemical fuel applications. 90-durometer for standard applications, and 75 durometer for CNG applications.
